Thank you Jill. Jo & Paul
Jo and Paul wanted a garden that had a modern/contemporary garden design with straight lines softened with abundant, lush planting. The garden was a difficult shape and needed careful planning to ensure unity and balance throughout the space. Repetition was used to help achieve this in terms of the materials used, the shapes and the planting colour and style. The design used smooth sawn cream sandstone throughout the space. Dark brick edgings and grey slate provided some contrast and definition. A contemporary mirrored pyramid water feature is the centre piece of the garden providing a focal point that can be viewed from all areas of the garden and a central axis for the pathways to the rest of the garden. A pathway leads through abundant planting to the centre of the garden and a curved, pergola walkway leads to the top of the garden with a statue providing an additional focal point. A step stone pathway leads to the main patio area where a relaxed seating area awaits. The planting is a mix of architectural evergreens, grasses and colourful perennials to soften and enhance the garden and to ensure interest at any time of year. This illustrates the importance of considered planting design in any garden style. For a modern/contemporary garden where hard landscaping can dominate it vital to consider how to balance the space using plants from the very start of the design process, helping to ensure the planting and hard landscaping compliment each other.
